Have you been in for your six-monthly check-up yet? Now is the perfect time to come in and see us make sure that your teeth and gums stay in tip-top shape.
We all know the importance of regular dental check-ups, and as this month marks the halfway point through the year, it’s a great time to make an appointment. Get the family together and come in and see us — for the sake of your oral and overall health!
Why is dental check-up so important?
It’s no secret that good oral health is connected to overall wellness. In fact, numerous studies have shown that issues like gum disease can lead to a range of other health problems. For this reason, it’s key that you take care of your teeth and gums, just as much as you do your overall health.
It’s important to note, however, that even if you follow good oral hygiene habits on a daily basis by brushing and flossing, you still need regular check-ups and cleans to make sure that your teeth remain free from decay and other issues. By coming in for a check-up and clean every six months, your dentist can pick up on any abnormalities at an early stage, and you can receive treatment as soon as possible.
How can I prepare for a check-up?
Before we begin your dental check-up, we will ask you to share some important information with us, including your medical history. It is important that your dentist is aware of any medical conditions you have, as these could affect the treatment recommendations that are made for you. It is also important that you let your dentist know if you are currently taking any medications.
If you feel anxious about receiving dental care, we encourage you to let us know. We understand that, for many people, visiting the dentist causes nervousness. By communicating your concerns, we can make sure that you receive the best possible treatment and we will do our best to put your mind at ease and provide you with an experience that is as pleasant as possible.
What can I expect during a check-up?
During the consultation itself, we will start with professional teeth cleaning. Your dentist will use special tools to remove any plaque and tartar that has built up on your teeth before polishing your teeth to remove any remaining residue. After this process, your teeth should look and feel smooth and shiny!
Once your teeth have been thoroughly cleaned, your dentist will assess the health of your teeth and gums and check for any abnormalities or oral health issues. In some cases, dental x-rays will be recommended to check for any issues below the mouth’s surface, which are not visible to the naked eye. We have an x-ray machine at our practice, so the process is completed quickly and efficiently.
As part of your check-up, your dentist will also examine your mouth, head, jaw and neck for any abnormalities or signs of oral cancer.
What happens next?
After your dentist has finished the examination, they will let you know if you require any treatment. If you do require further treatment, a plan will be carefully formulated and explained to you so that you know what to expect at your next appointment. If you have any questions or concerns about your oral health, this is a good time to discuss them with your dentist.
If you are ready to make an appointment, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Prevention is the most important factor for your oral health and general wellbeing, and we are committed to making you feel welcome and comfortable at our practice.
